Central squads dropped in California

ORANGE, CALIF—Head coach Bryan Mours took his Central College men's and women's tennis teams to California looking for tough competition, and he was not disappointed.

On Wednesday, the Central men's squad (7-5) fell to Chapman (Calif.) 8-1 and both team fell to NAIA-power Concordia (Calif.) 9-0 later in the evening.

“Our players are raising their level of play,” said Mours. “In the long run playing quality competition will serve us well.”

The No. 2 doubles team of Chris Bliss (senior, Ottumwa) and Justin Scherff (senior, Denison, Denison-Schleswig HS) produced Central's point in the Chapman dual.

“I think when we return to Iowa and start playing teams at our level, we will truly see the growth that has taken place,” said Mours. “I think we improved leaps and bounds in California.”
