Central teams overpowered

COSTA MESA, CALIF.—The Central College men’s and women’s tennis teams ran into stiff competition Monday, both losing 9-0 to Vangaurd University (Calif.).

“It was tough for us to play for the first time in four days,” said first-year coach Bryan Mours. “We battled and had some really good matches. It’s hard going against a team that has been able to play outside all year, but for the most part, I am happy."

While the scoreboard may not have been kind, Mours liked some of what he saw.

Dan Boswer (freshman, Fort Dodge) played a good, really tight match,” said Mours. “Faith Bliss (sophomore, Ottumwa) and Stephanie Gibbons (freshman, Ankeny) fought hard and played well. Katie Moklestad (senior, Boone) played well and had some good points. The scoreboard doesn’t reflect everything, and she did what I asked her to.”

Central will take Tuesday off and return to the courts Wednesday. The men will face Chapman (Calif.) in Orange at 3 p.m. Both squads will make the 12-mile trip to Irvine for an 8 p.m. clash with Concorida (Calif.).
