Dubuque dominates glass in 79-65 win

PELLA—The University of Dubuque dominated the boards in rolling up a 79-65 Iowa Conference win over the Central College women’s basketball team Saturday.

The Spartans, who got 23 points and 11 rebounds from forward Jennifer Nichols, held a 52-34 rebounding edge and took advantage of 17 offensive boards.

Central (4-19 overall, 2-12 conference) trailed 48-26 at halftime. Guard Brittney Carlson (sophomore, Oskaloosa) had 17 points, five rebounds Coach Natalie Nakicand a season-high seven assists for the Dutch while center Andrea Clark (freshman, Guthrie Center) had 15 points, six rebounds and four blocks and forward Erin Benson (senior, Omaha, Neb., Northwest HS) had 14 points and five rebounds. Dubuque (13-11 overall, 7-8 conference) shot 43.7 percent from the floor to Central’s 39.1 percent.

The Dutch play their home finale Wednesday, meeting Buena Vista in a league women’s-men’s doubleheader tipping off at 6 p.m. at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium. Buena Vista was a 109-72 winner when the teams met at Storm Lake Jan. 12. The Beavers, who were idle Saturday, are 12-11 overall and 6-8 in conference play.
