CEDAR RAPIDS—The Central College women’s basketball team could not keep pace with red-hot Coe College, falling 77-58 Wednesday.
Guard Brittney Carlson (sophomore, Oskaloosa) had a team-high 12 points, forward Erin Benson (senior, Omaha, Neb.) notched nine points and a season-high 11 rebounds while dishing out three assists. Forward Emily De Jong (junior, Ankeny) had eight points on 4 for 6 shooting while pulling down 10 boards.
Coe (17-6 overall, 10-4, Iowa Conference) sprinted out to a 15-6 lead and went on to record its seventh win in eight contests while handing Central (4-18 overall, 2-11 Iowa Conference) its ninth consecutive loss.
Central returns home Saturday for a 2 p.m. game against the University of Dubuque (12-11 overall, 6-8 conference), which fell 54-45 at Luther Wednesday. The Spartans won the Jan. 19 matchup with Central 63-59 in Dubuque and the two squads split last year. The contest is part of a women’s-men’s doubleheader at P.H. Kuyper Gym.
