PELLA—Central College men’s basketball point guard Brett DeHoogh (Clive, Valley HS) was named the Iowa Conference male athlete of the week Monday.
A 6-foot senior, DeHoogh poured in a career-high 30 points with five assists, four blocks and six rebounds in a 78-73 win at Simpson College Thursday. He helped seal the game by making 5 of 6 free throws in the final 40 seconds.
DeHoogh, who ranks 16th nationally in assists-to-turnover ratio at 2.25, averages 10.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists a game for the season. He is a three-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honoree.
DeHoogh is the second Central player to receive male athlete of the week recognition this year. Forward Keith Pedersen (senior, Jefferson, Jefferson-Scranton HS) was honored Jan. 2.
Central (13-6 overall, 6-6 conference) travels to Cedar Rapids Wednesday to face Coe College for a league contest tipping off at approximately 8 p.m.
