Feb. 7, 2008Injury-battered Central falls
DUBUQUE—An injury-depleted Central College wrestling team was blanked 55-0 by the University of Dubuque Thursday.
In a meet rescheduled from Tuesday night because of a snowstorm, the Dutch were able to send just three wrestlers, Nick Johnson (sophomore, San Antonio, Texas, James Madison HS) at 141 pounds, Chris Keeran (freshman, Redfield, Panorama HS) at 197 and Ted Dirkx (freshman, Alleman, North Polk HS) at 285.
“It was a tough situation for our guys with an extremely thin lineup,” coach Eric Van Kley said. “But they gave a good effort and wrestled hard. I couldn’t be prouder of them.”
Central dropped to 0-14-1 while Dubuque is 10-8. The Dutch close the dual-meet season at home Tuesday, taking on Simpson College (3-9) in a 7 p.m. dual at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.
