Feb. 7, 2008Simpson overwhelms Central women
INDIANOLA—Enduring a long night at Simpson College Thursday, the Central College women’s basketball team suffered a record-breaking 120-41 Iowa Conference defeat.
After sprinting to a 59-22, the No. 7-ranked Storm ran up a 61-19 advantage in the second half. Simpson (19-1 overall, 11-0 conference) placed four players in double figures and shot 63.8 percent from the floor while outrebounding Central 66-25.
It was the most points surrendered by a Central team, breaking the mark of 110 set by Mount Mercy in 1993.
Central (4-17 overall, 2-10 conference) got 11 points and five steals from Jordan Waddell (freshman, Guthrie Center), who hit three 3-point goals. But the Dutch shot just 23.0 percent from the floor.
The Dutch have the weekend off and travel to Cedar Rapids Wednesday to take on Coe College in a women’s-men’s league doubleheader starting at 6 p.m. Coe, which trimmed the Dutch 87-72 at Pella Jan. 16 improved to 15-6 overall and 8-4 in the league with a 66-61 victory over Loras College Thursday night.
