PELLA—For the third straight year, Central College’s Brett DeHoogh (senior, Clive, Valley HS) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine academic all-region college division men’s basketball squad.
DeHoogh, a 6-foot point guard, is a first-team selection and is now under consideration for academic all-America honors. He was a second-team pick last year and a third-team choice in 2006.
A mathematics major, DeHoogh carries a 3.89 grade point average. He’s also a three-time academic all-Iowa Conference honoree.
In his fourth year as a starter for the Dutch, DeHoogh holds the school assists records for a game (13), season (141, in 2005-06) and career (443). He’s averaging 9.7 points and is the team’s second-leading rebounder with 5.5 per game. DeHoogh also ranks second in free throw percentage (77.8), is first in steals (1.6) and first in assists (4.5).
The only other Iowa player on the college division team is Jack Rother of Morningside, from Wolbach, Neb., who has a 3.91 GPA with a business administration major and was also a first-team pick. On the university division team, Drake’s Adam Emmenecker of Saginaw, Mich. was a first-team selection with a 3.97 GPA. He’s majoring in business, finance and entrepreneurial management.
