Hobbs, Central come up short at Matman Invitational

MOUNT VERNON—After taking a three-match winning streak into the second day of the Cornell College Matman Invitational, Central College wrestler Curtis Hobbs (freshman, Grinnell) at 141 lost in his only match of the day.

Hobbs, the lone Central College wrestler to advance to the invitational’s second day, lost via fall to Morningside’s Jared Pickett who would go on to take 5th place in the 141 weight class. The loss to Pickett ended Hobbs’ chances of placing for the Dutch.

The young Central squad scored 11-team points, placing them 13th in the 13-team invitational. Coe took the title with 164.5 points.

The Dutch finally make their home-season debut next Friday, taking on St. Olaf College (Minn.) in a 6 p.m. dual Friday at H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse. The Central Invitational will be staged the following day. The Oles, who haven’t wrestled since Dec. 6, have a 2-0 dual mark and were selected to compete in the NWCA Division III National Duals in Cedar Falls Jan. 12-13.
