Nov. 8, 2007Central's Johnson on academic squad
PELLA—Central College middle hitter Katie Johnson (senior, Johnston) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine academic all-district third team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Johnson is an elementary education major with a 3.76 grade point average. She was earlier named a first-team all-Iowa Conference selection and received honorable mention for the AVCA Division III Central Region squad.
She averaged 2.95 kills per game while hitting a team-high .297 with 0.37 service aces, 1.22 digs and 1.16 blocks.
Johnson helped lead the Dutch to their 12th consecutive Iowa Conference title, their ninth league tourney berth and their 11th NCAA Division III tournament appearance. Central (26-8) is rated 17th in the AVCA Division III rankings and faces 25th-ranked Carleton College (Minn.) in Division III regional tourney play Thursday at 6 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
