Nov. 7, 2007Central cracks rankings
PELLA—For the first time in more than seven years, the Central College women’s tennis team has cracked the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Central Region rankings.
The Dutch debut in 16th after a solid third-place showing at last month’s Iowa Conference tournament. Under first-year coach Bryan Mours, Central posted an 11-4 mark in the fall season.
“This is a great testament to all the hard work our players put in this season,” Mours said.
Central loses seniors Jennifer Knobbe (Carroll, Kuemper Catholic HS), Katie Moklestad (Boone) and Whitney Visser (Sioux Falls, S.D., Lincoln) to graduation, but Mours is vigorously attacking the recruiting circuit and has his sights set even higher.
“Even though we lose three good seniors, we want to raise the level we’re at,” he said. “We definitely saw the gap between us and the top two schools start shrinking this fall and we’d like to begin making a run at them.”
