Oct. 23, 2007Central falls to Augustana
PELLA—After a week of exciting wins, the Central women’s soccer team’s run came to an end with a 4-0 defeat to Augustana (Ill.) Tuesday.
Augustana (13-3-1), which currently stands third in the highly regarded College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, opened the scoring 25:27 into the match when Katie Oakes notched her ninth goal of the season. Lauren Polock gave the Vikings their second goal 7:59 later. Augustana added its third tally 12:55 into the second half off a Rachel Nerad goal. Augustan concluded the scoring in the 76th minute off a goal from Katlin Garrett.
“I felt we played uninspired soccer today,” said head coach Rick Burns. “We were not prepared, which I will take credit for. It was just a poor performance.”
The score reflected the statistics as the Augustana held 29-2 shot and 5-0 corner kick advantages over Central (9-5-2).
While the loss ended Central’s regular season, the Dutch return to action next week in the six-team Iowa Conference tournament. The match will be played either Oct. 30 or 31 against an opponent to be determined.
“We will pull together and get ready for the tournament,” said Burns. “We will need to play hard and have more pride in our defense.”
