Sept. 14, 2007Downes ties for third at Loras
E. DUBUQUE, ILL.—Cracking the first division for the first time this season, the Central College women’s golf team finished fifth in the 10-team Loras Fall Invitational Friday.
Eva Downes (sophomore, Woodstock, Ill., Marian Central Catholic HS) carded a 38-48—86 and tied for third. Her 38 on the front nine was the only sub-40 nine for the day. Jordan Williams (junior, Pella) tied for 12th at 44-46—90, Nicole Wenstrand (freshman, Essex, Shenandoah HS) tied for 22nd at 49-46—95, Allison Crooks (freshman, Moline, Ill.) tied for 35th at 48-56—104 and Meghan Swella (junior, Yucca Valley, Calif.) was 37th at 50-55—105. There were 51 golfers in the field.
Host Loras won the tourney at 351, seven shots better than Simpson. Central shot 375, one stroke ahead of Coe.
Central remains in northeastern Iowa Saturday for the Luther Invitational at the par-72 Oneota Golf Course in Decorah. The Dutch tied for fourth in a 15-team field at the Luther tourney last year.
