Reed to leave Central
PELLA—Eric Reed has resigned as Central College wrestling coach after three seasons.
A former two-time NCAA Division III All-America performer at the University of Wis.-La Crosse, Reed previously served as head wrestling coach at Wabash College (Ind.) for two seasons. Earlier the Oskaloosa native spent two years (2000-02) as an assistant coach at Central and competed with the Hawkeye Wrestling Club in Iowa City. He was an assistant at Wis.-La Crosse from 1997-2000.
Reed, also an instructor in Central's exercise science department, inherited a rebuilding squad and compiled a 6-47 dual meet record. This past season a freshman-dominated lineup was slowed by injuries and posted a 0-18 mark.
Athletics director Al Dorenkamp indicated that he will lead an immediate search for a replacement.
Central's wrestling program has captured four Iowa Conference team championships and placed in the NCAA Division III top 20 10 times, with a national second-place finish in 1984-85. Central wrestlers have won three NCAA titles and received All-America honors 42 times.
