Anderson (Ind.) survives elimination game with walk-off hit against Fontbonne (Mo.)

PELLA (IOWA)—Playing in a steady rain, the Anderson (Ind.) Ravens staved off elimination by way of a two-out, two-run single to beat the Fontbonne (Mo.) Griffins 6-5.
Down 5-3 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Ravens rallied. With one out, pinch-hitter Kourtney Allender’s bunt single scored shortstop Natalie Moorhouse. One out later, catcher Stephanie Atkins delivered the gamewinner, a two-run single.
The Ravens took an early lead, scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first inning. Fontbonne responded in the second by posting three runs, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of second baseman Cara Hargate. The blast was her first of the season. The scoring stalled for two innings, as the rain intensified and there were two stoppages of play to maintain the field. In the top of the fifth the Griffins added two runs to their lead, with Hargate driving in another run on a single to left. Anderson answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half, capped by an RBI single by third baseman Katy Ogden.
Anderson improves to 29-14 and meets the loser of Friday’s 4 p.m. game between Coe (35-9) and Central (36-7) Saturday at noon.
Fontbonne closes at 29-10.
