Four NCAA Div. III championships
Wis.-River Falls shuts down Central in Game 2, 6-0
PELLA--It only took two pitches for Wis.-River Falls to make its opening-game statement in the NCAA Division III softball regional, moving on with a decisive 6-0 victory over No. 5 Central College Friday.
Leadoff hitter Hayley Buchanan belted the third pitch over the left-field fence and that was the only run the Falcons (31-13) needed. They advance to meet the winner of Coe-St. Thomas (Minn.) Saturday.
Central (35-9) has to come back Friday at 4 p.m. in an elimination game against St. Scholastica (Minn.).
Falcons' pitcher Rose Tusa had a perfect game for 4.2 innings, retiring the first 14 hitters before left fielder Rachael Everingham lined a two-out single to right in the fifth inning. Tusa (24-6) finished with a three-hitter, striking out three and walking one.
Pitcher Rhianna Fleetwood saw her 22-inning scoreless streak quickly snapped. She gave up two runs on four hits with two walks before being lifted with one out in the second inning. She dropped to 16-3.
