Wis.-River Falls blanks Luther, softball regional continues
PELLA, IOWA—Wis.-River Falls knocked off No. 6 Luther College with three hits in the first inning for a 1-0 triumph at the NCAA Division III Pella, Iowa Softball Regional.

The two teams meet for a third and final time in the regional championship Monday at 11 a.m. The winner advances to the national finals May 18-22 at Salem, Va.

Wis.-River Falls (39-7) strung together its only three hits of the game in the first. Center fielder Amanda Ryder singled to left center, advanced to third on a right-center shot from designated player Abbie Morris and crossed the plate on a left-field line double from first baseman Ashley Goettl.

Rose Tusa pitched a three-hit shutout for the Falcons. She walked one and improved to 28-7.

Luther's Rebecca Girvan (28-5) was charged with the loss. She walked none and struck out four. After giving up three hits in the first, Girvan retired 16 consecutive batters.

The two pitchers have combined to allow just 27 hits in nine games.
