Garry Laidlaw
Head coach

Garry Laidlaw is entering his 11th year as head men's soccer coach at Central.

Inheriting a program that had never previously approached the .500 mark, Laidlaw engineered a turnaround which has produced a 81-27-9 (.730) mark over the past six years. His career mark is 98-77-13.

Laidlaw was tabbed as the Iowa Conference coach of the year in 2002, after guiding his team to a 16-0-1 regular season. The Dutch were 14-4-3 in 2007, and for the second straight year were within a shootout of advancing to the league tournament finals.

Previously Laidlaw served as head boys' soccer coach at Central High School in Champaign, Ill. for five seasons and also piloted the girls' squad for one year. He was named Illinois sectional coach of the year in 1995.

Laidlaw talkBorn in England, Laidlaw grew up playing soccer in South Africa and Canada. He received his bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University where he was a three-time all-conference player and team captain. He was also a two-time all-region pick and was named the Mid-Continent Conference player of the year. Laidlaw later earned a tryout with the Wichita Wings of the Major Indoor Soccer League.

Laidlaw received a master's degree in physical education from Eastern Illinois in 1991. He taught physical education at St. Mathew's School in Champaign, Ill. for six years. At Central, he also serves as an academic counselor and exercise science instructor.

John Milligan
Assistant coach

John Milligan is entering third season as assistant men's soccer coach at Central.

A former team captain at Cedarville University (Ohio), Milligan works with the goalkeepers for the Dutch, the position he played competitively. He is a veteran youth soccer coach and also serves as an quality manager-underground at Vermeer Manufacturing Company in Pella, where he has worked since 1992.



Eric Bentzinger
Assistant coach

Bentzinger is in his first season as an assistant coach at Central. The captain of Central's 2006 team, he was a three-year letterwinner. Bentzinger was a first-team all-Iowa Conference selection as a defender in 2006 and also a second-team all-region pick by D3Kicks.com. He also serves as a graduate assistant in the Central sports information office.
