Ron Schipper Fitness Center
Central College's Ron Schipper Fitness Center, opened in 1999, is
the capstone to the Kuyper Athletic Complex.
Named in honor of College Football Hall of Fame
coach, Ron Schipper, the fitness center was his dream. The building
features a 7,200-square foot strength and conditioning area, one
of the largest of any college or university in Iowa, and is open
to all Central students, not just athletes. The second floor includes
a 1,200-square foot multipurpose room for aerobics classes, cheerleading
and pom squad practices, and tae kwon do workouts.
A full-time strength and conditioning coordinator,
Jake Anderson, serves as the Schipper Center director.
Well over $150,000 of new strength and conditioning
equipment was purchased for the new facility to complement the equipment
housed in Central's old weight training center. The building features
York free weights, Hammerstrength leverage equipment and Life Fitness
selectorized cardiovascular equipment.
H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse
Built in 1987 and expanded in 1999, the fieldhouse features a six-lane,
200-meter indoor track. There is space for five tennis/basketball
courts and indoor batting cages.
It also houses a 1,900-square foot athletic training
room, one of the largest college facilities in the region, as well
as locker rooms, classrooms and offices.
P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium

Headquarters for the athletic department, P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium
was constructed in 1970. A new wooden competition floor was installed
in 1997 and has been the site of numerous NCAA championship events,
including the NCAA Div. III women's basketball Final Four in 1993
and the volleyball Final Four in 2000. Both were sold-out events
and the volleyball final was the first advance sellout in Div. III
volleyball history. The facility also houses Central's wrestling
room, four racquetball courts, two saunas, locker rooms, classrooms,
offices and a lab for the exercise science department.
