Hometown: Iowa Falls, Iowa

High School: Iowa Falls-Alden

Why Central?
I loved the atmosphere and the ability to play two sports (I played football and ran track freshman/sophomore year), all while still being able to keep up with school, which was really important to me.

You are majoring in exercise science because…
Sports are a huge part of my life, so I wanted to pick a profession that deals with sports. Being in the exercise science/health promotion profession just seemed like something I would enjoy doing.

Who is your favorite professor?
Professor Gannon. I have had her for quite a few courses and I feel like she really gets to know her students on a personal level.

What is your favorite Central College memory?
Getting to stay on campus after finals are over in the spring to practice for the national meet freshman and sophomore year was fun. It was great to still be on campus and around my friends and teammates and not have to worry about school, plus the excitement of going to nationals was a great bonus.

What do you love most about being a member of the Central Dutch men’s track and field team?
Being a part of the track team means you are also a part of this family of men that you don’t get to be a part of anywhere else. I have been alongside a number of great athletes in the past four years and I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to learn from them if I wasn’t a part of the team.

What is it like to be one of the fastest people at Central?
Well, it’s really nice getting to class really fast!

What is your preference: indoor track season or outdoor track season?
I love outdoor season. The tight curves of an indoor track make it harder to run fast sometimes. Also the atmosphere is just different being outside. People are happier and being outside means warm weather!

What is going through your mind when you take the blocks before a race?
I don’t really think about anything. I know what I have to do; it all comes down to just doing it. You can’t psyche yourself out before a race.

You have had great success in relay teams; what is the hardest thing about running a relay?
The hardest thing about being on a relay team is that all four runners have to be in sync with one other.  All four runners have to run a good race in order for the relay to be successful. One bad exchange could cost you the whole race.

What is one thing people do not know about assistant coach Jonathan Graupmann?
His brain is full of an unhealthy amount of knowledge.

There has been a lot of talk in recent years about Usain Bolt competing in other sports; do you think sprinters’ skills translate to other sports better than any other athlete?
They definitely help in other sports, but every sport requires a different set of skills that you have to have in order to really be successful in that sport. But I would say being fast is a great start!

Who is your favorite track and field athlete of all time?
I would have to say Usain Bolt because he is so successful and he is also a really nice, fun guy.

What is your favorite activity to do in your free time?
I really love to fish and golf, so when the weather permits I do a lot of that.

Who is the one person, past or present, that you’d like to have lunch with?
My brother Tony. He passed away a little over a year ago so it would just be great to see him again.

What do you want most out of your senior year on the track?
I want another chance to compete at nationals. And I would really like to make it to the outdoor national meet. I want to finish my track career on top.

Bucket list (list items that you want to do/accomplish in your life)
I would love to become a base jumper, or at least just do it once
