Hometown: Waverly, Neb.

High School: Waverly

Why Central?
I chose Central because I wanted to go to a small college and I wanted to play tennis. The study abroad program set Central apart from the other small schools I was considering.

Who is your favorite professor?
I really enjoyed the classes I had with Professor Maurer. His tests were really challenging and I had no idea someone could be so excited about accounting.

You are majoring in accounting because…
I was always interested in business and I really like money.

What is your favorite Central memory?
My favorite Central memory was probably my trip to Rome with my friends during my semester abroad in London.

What do you love most about being a member of the Central Dutch men’s tennis team?
We have a lot of fun on our spring break trips and hanging out in hotels on away trips.

When and why did you first pick up a tennis racket?
I started playing tennis a few weeks before my freshman year of high school because I wasn’t planning on playing a sport. I gave it a try and it worked out well.

You are a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and academic all-Iowa Conference selection; how does Central allow you to excel both on the court and in the classroom?
Coach Tyler is good about letting us miss practices when we have night classes or exams and he tries not to schedule many matches during the week. It is also really easy to let my professors know when I will miss class because I have gotten to know them so well.

Favorite game to play in practice: fast hands or doubles overhead?
Definitely fast hands because it is exciting and I like to think I am good at volleys.

What is your best tennis stroke (forehand, volley, serve, etc.)?
My serve is my best shot because it keeps my opponents off balance because they haven’t seen anything like it before. I serve left handed but hit groundstrokes right handed so I have beaten a lot of people because of my unique style.

What is your favorite activity to do in your free time?
I love a good nap.

Who is your favorite tennis player of all-time?
Andy Roddick. I got to see him play in person and I got his autograph when he was in Lincoln, Neb. He was always funny during his interviews and he had a huge serve.

If you could attend one tennis Grand Slam tournament, which would you choose?
I would go to Wimbledon. I got to visit the stadium when I was in London but I would love to watch a match there.

The biggest difference between Nebraska and Iowa is…
Hawkeye fans are the worst.

Your name is John Seier Jr. (your father is John Seier Sr.); do you intend on naming your first-born son John Seier III?
Although John Seier III sounds pretty awesome, I really didn’t like having the same name as my dad when I’m at home. I don’t know though. You might have to ask my girlfriend about the name situation.

Who is one person, past or present, that you’d like to have lunch with?
I would say Jimmy Fallon. He was great on Saturday Night Live and Late Night. I think he is hilarious and I bet he has some great stories.

Bucket list (list items that you want to do/accomplish in your life)
Go to Australia
Get married and have kids
Get really good at golf when I retire
