Hometown: Pella, Iowa

High School: Pella

Why Central?
Originally I didn’t give Central a chance since I’m from Pella. I wanted to get out and experience other places, but when I decided to transfer I visited Central and thought the campus was very nice and the people were all very friendly and welcoming. I felt like they really wanted me here and that was encouraging!

You are majoring in psychology/pre-occupational therapy because…
I am majoring in psychology at Central, but hope to continue on to become an occupational therapist. I’ve always enjoyed helping people and I have always been a pretty active person. I want to be an occupational therapist because I want to help people be active in their everyday lives and it seems like a very rewarding occupation.

Who is your favorite professor?
I actually have two favorite professors. The first is Dr. Benedict because I always enjoyed his sense of humor in class and whenever I see him he always says “hi” and jokes with me. His Diversity of Life class was pretty fun, too! My second is Dr. Cleveland. I took Psychopathology with her this past fall and she always had a great attitude. She cares about her students both inside and outside of the classroom.

What is your favorite Central College memory?
My favorite Central College memory was earlier this season when my best friend Courtney Kelderman hit the game winning 3-pointer against Luther. It’s something I will never forget!
Central Close-up fun fact: watch it again here.

What do you love most about being a member of the Central Dutch women’s basketball team?
The best part about being on this team is that I know I have created lifelong friendships.

What is it like to be a star collegiate athlete in your hometown?
I feel incredibly fortunate to have landed at Central because the support the community has given the former Pella High and Pella Christian women on the team has been phenomenal! I even have people I don’t know commenting on how well we have been doing this season! :)

You are averaging 35.7 minutes per game this season; how are you physically able to play nearly the entire game?
We prepared well in the preseason with Coach Johnson (strength coach) and the pick-up games we played. We also prepared better this season than any other season for conference games. Coach Petersen raised the level of intensity and I can tell it prepared me for the minutes I play on the court.

What is one thing people do not know about head coach Chelsea Petersen?
Coach Petersen can definitely be a softy! But only because she cares so much about this team and the program! :)

What is your favorite activity to do in your free time?
To be honest, when I have free time I’m normally taking a nap or doing some online shopping for things I can’t afford! :)

Is it a Cyclone or Hawkeye state?
I would have to say a Hawkeye state! My family has always been Hawkeye fans. My sister works at the University of Iowa Medical Center and my brother-in-law will be attending there for med school next fall! So by default, it’s a Hawkeye state!....Sorry to my friends at Iowa State! :)

Do you believe in Hilton Magic?
I would say I believe in Hilton Magic! I think it’s an incredibly tough place to play because of the huge turnout of fans and all of their support.

Who is your favorite basketball player of all time?
I would have to say Skylar Diggins! She’s an amazing player and point guard and I think I could learn some valuable things from her.

What is the best basketball movie ever made?
I always have enjoyed the movie Love and Basketball...probably because it was also a love story (and I’m a softy), but also because when I was little I thought Quincy (Omar Epps) was a stud and pretty good looking!
Central Close-up fun fact: teammate Jessy Stika also picked “Love and Basketball” as the best basketball movie ever made.

Who is the one person, past or present, that you’d like to have lunch with?
I’d probably have to say my grandpa who passed away about a year and a half ago. It would be nice to have a conversation with him again. He always had the best advice and was super funny!
