Why Central?
I chose Central because I knew I could get a lot of early exposure to being in the classroom through the education program and have the opportunity to play sports.

You are majoring in Elementary Education because…
I’ve known since probably third grade that I’ve wanted to be a teacher and it’s never wavered. I love children, I’ve always enjoyed school, and I guess the summers off aren’t too shabby either.

Who is your favorite professor and why?
Mary Stark. She’s the biggest sweetheart on earth. She is incredibly compassionate and has a way of making every person she talks to feel like they are the most important person in the world.

What was your favorite class and why?
Human Relations with Alida Droppert. She’s also a great professor! I loved doing service learning in Des Moines and class was very discussion-based on one of the most important aspects of human life, and that’s relating to each other.

What is your favorite Central memory?
Whiffle ball in the pouring rain during finals last year and then making a whirlpool in the library fountain.

What do you love most about being a member of the Central Dutch men’s soccer team?
I love how welcoming everybody is on the team. Every team I’ve ever been on stresses family, but the Central soccer team is probably the closest I’ve ever felt to it. It doesn’t feel forced or unnatural. Everybody is accepted and embraced for who they are and we come together to make one hilariously bizarre family!

You played football your freshman and sophomore years and soccer this year: what would be the third sport you try if you tried another?
Basketball because I would just dish dimes to Nile the Crocodile (Eckermann), cashing in on trey balls!

What similarities are there between Dutch football and Dutch soccer?
Both teams have high expectations and go about things the right way. Quality character guys are essential to both programs.

Which teammate is most likely to start for the Dutch football team, at what position and why?
Aleksandar Glavas at kicker because he’s got some thunder thighs that can strike a ball with the best of them.

What is your favorite activity to do in your free time and why?
Going to Sky Zone and jumping on trampolines! The most exhausting and fun-filled hour and a half imaginable!

What is one thing most people do not know about head coach Garry Laidlaw?
He starred in the movie Goal! as an extra that was blurred out in the background! Nearly got an Oscar.

The best song on the pregame warm-up CD is (and why)…
It’s not on the CD, but “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” from Marry Poppins is my favorite song from soccer. Adelmo (Marchiori) IV (aka Mo Mo) and I sing it pretty frequently and it’s a nostalgic and uplifting jingle that never gets old!

The best soccer movie ever made is (and why)…
Bend It Like Beckham because I’m a sucker for romantic comedies…kidding! But I’d probably have to go with The Big Green because I love the Disney group of misfit kids that come together to become champions in the classroom and on the pitch despite all of the challenges they face. Plus it’s hilarious!

Who is one person, past or present, that you’d like to have lunch with and why?
Bill Watterson, the creator of Calvin and Hobbes because his comics influenced my childhood and continue to have an impact on me now. And he seems to really have a good grasp on what his priorities are and I respect that.

Bucket list (list items that you want to do/accomplish in your life)
I really want to see the northern lights, go to the Peace Corps in Tanzania, live in Portland, go scuba diving, sky diving, own exotic pets, and be a husband and father.
