Why Central?
When I started visiting schools, I found that I really enjoyed the smaller, private colleges. Central was my top choice right away. It felt like a home away from home.

Who is your favorite professor and why?
My favorite professor is Dr. Benedict. I think it’s wonderful how passionate he is about teaching and environmental efforts. Having him as a professor made me so much more conscientious of how I treat the world around me and ways that I can help make the world a better place. And he would throw a marker at you if you fell asleep in his class, which I thought was funny…until it happened to me.

You are majoring in Biology/Nursing because…
I’m a people person. There is no way I could sit at a desk all day at a computer because I would get bored. I wanted to have that chance to be out in the community and improving people’s lives. What better way to do that than nursing! It’s tremendously rewarding to see where people start when they come into the hospital or nursing home, for example, and see what medicine and therapy can do to help them get better. I think that medicine is fascinating because it’s always changing and improving.

What is your favorite Central memory?
Hands down my experience studying abroad in Wales during my sophomore year. I got to travel around the world and meet people who will remain a part of my life forever. Getting stuck in an elevator in Florence, Italy, and having the fire department rescue us 30 minutes later will definitely be something I never forget. I’m sure Natalie Mason, Nolan Blythe, Michael Splavec and Ricky Boyle can attest to that.

What do you love most about being a member of the Central Dutch volleyball team?
There is an endless list of things that I love about this team. What I love most though is that through and through we always have each other’s backs; whether it’s in a heated match, in practice or outside of volleyball. They help me choose joy in every situation that I am in. These girls and coaches have been a true blessing to me these past four years and I can’t thank them enough for that.

More exciting play: block or kill?
That’s a tough one. I don’t think there is anything that fires me up more in a game than getting a block off of a tough hitter. Your hands are tingling and red after, but it’s so worth it!

Better volleyball venue: beach or gymnasium?
I love the energy and how loud it gets when we play in our gym. Playing in a home match with all our fans cheering is a great feeling. There is so much history in there, too…the three national championship volleyball teams all played in there at one point in time and it’s a huge honor to have the chance to do that, as well.

What is your favorite activity to do in your free time and why?
Besides studying…? I really enjoy bike riding. It’s great exercise and relaxing at the same time. Then I come home and reward myself with a giant bowl of ice cream.

Who is your favorite volleyball player of all-time and why?
I grew up watching Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor play beach volleyball in the summer Olympics. I remember watching them when I was younger and thinking that playing volleyball is exactly what I wanted to do someday. They are amazing players and great role models, too.

What is one thing people do not know about Coach Clayberg?
Sad to say, but he listens to Justin Bieber music. He’s a Bielieber!

Teammate most likely to dent the gymnasium floor with her kills…
Jess Laflin. I don’t know how she does it, but I wouldn’t want to be on the opposite side of the net when she gets a ball set to her.

Who is one person, past or present, that you’d like to have lunch with and why?
I would love to sit down and have lunch with my grandparents. All but one passed away before I was born and I would love to have the chance to meet them.

“This season I hope that…”
This season I know we can take the conference championship title and hit the road for the national title, too!
