Hometown: Agency, Iowa

High School: Cardinal

Why Central?

Central was the perfect place from all standpoints. But to be honest, the main standpoint I was choosing a college based on was softball. I wanted to go a school that had a successful softball program, that put a focus on winning and respecting the game. When I went to the week-long Central Softball camp the summer before my senior year of high school I was immediately sold. Now don’t get me wrong, Central’s location played a part in my decision as well. As most of my teammates know, I am a homebody and tend to get homesick from time to time…definitely more than the average college student. However, the true reason I chose Central is because of what I saw and learned from the coaching staff, current players, and alumni that one summer at camp. The camp is unlike any I have ever been to, and showed me that Central was the perfect place for me. I am so thankful for the opportunity that I had to attend camp, or else I might not have ever chosen Central or been given the chance to do the same for a girl who is in the same situation I was.

You’re majoring in exercise science because...

I have kind of always been a health nut and enjoyed exercise. I just thought it was the perfect major for my set of interests. My mom will definitely attest to the fact that I am always on everyone in my family about exercising and putting healthy things into their bodies. They might not always enjoy it, but sometimes I get them to listen. Since I already do this at home, I thought I might as well do something similar in my career as well.

What you’re doing this summer

This summer I have two jobs. Two to three days a week I am watching my cousin’s kids. This is the greatest summer job ever! I basically get paid to hang out with two amazing kids and go swimming all the time. My other job is at an exercise study in a nearby town a couple days a week, There I am helping out with family and kids’ exercise classes. Both my jobs are very laid back, so I have a lot of spare time to relax, workout, and play softball. It’s the perfect summer job set up in my eyes!

In your iPod

To be completely honest, I am more of a radio kind of girl. I gave my iPod away to my boyfriend because I never use it and I even have an iPhone that has yet to have a song uploaded on it. I usually just listen to Pandora or the radio in my car. My favorite stations on Pandora are Today’s Country Radio and 90s Pop Radio, but if I am listening to music in my car it’s always on some country station.

What it’s like playing for Coach Wares

Playing for Coach Wares is unlike playing for any other coach. He cares so much about his players, past and present. I would describe it as a challenge, but in a good way. He pushes his players beyond what we think are our limits and is a coach for us on and off the field.

Person past or present you’d like to have lunch with
I would love to have lunch with my Grandpa Don. I never had the opportunity to meet him, because he died a little before I was born. From the way my mom describes him, it seems like we would hit it off and that he would have loved to come watch my cousins and I play softball.

Favorite Central memory
I have several amazing memories, all of which are somehow related to softball. But I would have to say my favorite is winning the regional final to make it to nationals this past 2013 season. The moment we won is one I will never forget. I watch a video that my sister took of the last couple outs of the game regularly, and no matter how many times I watch it, it never fails to give me goose bumps.

The reason you’re excited about Central softball in 2014

I’m excited for another opportunity to play with my best friends and the best coaching staff in the nation and work toward our goal of a National Championship.

Favorite food at the Central Market

My favorite food at Central Market would have to be the country-fried steak, corn, and mashed potatoes.

Favorite road trip

I really enjoyed this year’s spring break trip and going to both Georgia and Arizona. All the spring break trips are so fun and we make so many amazing memories. But, I’m not sure anything can top the trip to Nationals. Even though the six hour bus ride might not sound too appealing, it was a great time and an amazing experience.

Sporting event you’d love to attend

The Olympics. I love watching both the summer and winter Olympics on television and it would be amazing to see some of the action in person.

Why you love Central softball

I could probably write a 10-page essay for this answer, because there are so many things I love about Central Softball. But to sum it up…Central Softball is so special because it is not about the individual, one team, coaches, or even current players. While there are so many words that I could use to describe Central Softball and why I love it so much, the three main things that come to my mind when I think about why I love it so much are tradition, love and respect for the game, and family. Softball at Central is all about carrying on the tradition and keeping the past connected to the present. The connection between current players and coaches, the alumni, and the fans is nothing like you will ever find anywhere else. It is such a privilege to be a part of something so special. I love being a part of this huge family of people who share a love and respect for softball.

Why your teammates call you Nugget

I’ve been called Nugget since my freshman year, and I am pretty sure it was Kiley Lythberg who started it. I have always been small compared to everyone I’ve ever played sports with or gone to school with, and since I have been at Central that hasn’t really changed. Kiley and some of the other seniors that year always describe small things as nugget sized, so that is how they described me…and well I would say it kinda stuck. I love the name and I will always be about embracing my “nuggetness,” I enjoy being small!

Teammate who could be a reality show star

I am going to say Abbey Strajack and Whitney Sowers could have their own show together. I never really know what to expect out of either one of them. They are always doing random and weird things, and hilarious when they are together.
