Hometown: Panora, Iowa

High School: Panorama

Why Central?
I chose Central because it was small. I grew up in a small town and went to a small high school. I like small communities where I get to know about everyone. Central also provided me with the opportunity of being a member of the women’s track & field team.

Best class you’ve taken and why
Organic Chemistry II. Sounds absolutely crazy right?! I can’t really explain it myself but I really enjoyed OChem II. It’s an extremely challenging course and I had to push myself to understand the material but when I finally grasped the concept of something I felt so accomplished and that was the best part.

You’re majoring in biology because…
Ultimately, I am leaning toward a career in Pharmacy. The prerequisites for most graduate schools require equal study hours of both chemistry and biology, so I had the option of majoring in either. I’m more interested in the biological sciences than chemistry so I chose a biology major.

Favorite Central memory
One of my favorite memories at Central is when I won the Most Valuable Freshman Award at the track & field banquet in 2012. At the beginning of the year I never thought obtaining this award was possible. I was not by any means our fastest, strongest, or “most valuable” female, freshman athlete. But, I worked my tail off, I set goals, and I achieved those goals. The award is a reminder to me now that I can accomplish anything I put my mind and heart to.

Person past or present you’d like to have lunch with
My grandma. She gets lonely a lot now that she is retired. When opportunities arise for her to get out of the house I can tell she really enjoys it.

Can’t live without…
my family.

The thing you like best about your team
We are like a family. We motivate and push each other, and even sometimes annoy one another but at the end of the day we have fun together and accomplish greater things together than we could on our own.

Toughest part of practice
Staying mentally positive and focused. There are days when I don’t want to practice, days when I have school obligations weighing on my mind, days when I would rather be doing anything else but running. It’s on those days I have to self-motivate and keep my goals in mind.

Why you love track and field
I’ve always had a passion for track & field. I like it because it’s about individual performance within a team sport.

Your favorite event and why
I like running 400s. I love the feeling when you set a mark for yourself and then slowly chip away at it as the year goes by.

In your iPod
Mostly upbeat songs I listen to while working out, also a quite a bit of Taylor Swift too.

Top travel destination, past or present
Over Thanksgiving break I spent a week in London, England. It was absolutely amazing and the best trip of my life! I want to go back someday.

Best movie you’ve watched recently
Real Steel. I love action movies where the underdog wins.

The thing you’re most excited about for the outdoor season
The weather! I’m ready for the sun and heat!!

Reality show you’d dominate
Dancing with the Stars. I was in dance and tumbling all though high school so I think it would be fun to try.

Teammate most likely to win a MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) tournament…
Logan Danko because he recently threw a standing back flip in the wrestling room this season and landed it.

Bucket list
Travel the world. I don’t have a precise list of destinations yet but some ideas.
