I actually hadn’t even considered Central and my parents made me go to Scholar Day – I told everyone that I had to come, and I was actually going to the University of Nebraska. Then, I met the volleyball girls and they took me right in. I felt like a part of the team before I even told them I was coming. Then I had to admit my parents were right…
Your favorite professor and why
Is this a trick question? I’m gonna get in trouble if someone reads this and they’re not on it… even though I’ve had great experiences with all my professors, I really enjoy Brian Peterson – he knows what he’s talking about, but also knows how to put it into terms that students can understand. He also showed us episodes of Dr. Horrible if we were getting done early.
You’re majoring in communications because…
I am a people person. I’ve always wanted to work in some area having to do with people, and I figured communications was kind of an obvious choice. I also really enjoy writing, and it’s helped strengthen those skills in a huge way.
Favorite Central memory
This is definitely funnier for the people who planned it, but during my freshman year some of our friends convinced my roommate and I are that our room was haunted… when we finally decided to move out, they showed us the noise-maker that they had planted in our room for two weeks. We’re still trying to figure out how to get even.
I’m interning with Vermeer this summer helping to develop their dealerships in a variety of locations, along with a travel company learning about event coordinating. I’m also working out in the mornings with the strength program to prepare for my senior season.
“This season I hope that…”
We can create our own identity. The past seniors did an amazing job of teaching us the culture of Central Volleyball, but they had all played major parts from early on in their careers. This will definitely be a growing year allowing new people to step up into positions that they haven’t yet been able.
Best thing about being a defensive specialist
Getting out of blocking drills :)
Something you didn’t know about Central Volleyball until you got here
How joyful and gracious everyone is – no matter the year or amount of experience of the player, everyone does an amazing job of teaching (and learning from) each other, even when things aren’t necessarily going our way.
Favorite cartoon you watched growing up
Spongebob Squarepants… I can’t explain myself on that one.
Person past or present you’d like to have lunch with
I’ve always thought it would be cool to meet Beyonce - mainly for singing/dancing lessons - but also because she manages to stay humble and keep her faith a priority in life despite the pressures of fame.
Top travel destination, past or future
I really want to go to Venice. We were able to go to other parts of Italy while we were abroad, but didn’t make it there and it’s still on the top of my list!
Best book you’ve read recently
The Help – it gives an intriguing perspective on history that you can’t get from classes. I also really enjoyed The Shack.
Any all-time favorite quotes from Coach Kent Clayberg?
There are literally too many to keep track of… I really enjoy the fact that he loves Justin Bieber; apparently Kent uses him as a multiple choice answer on his tests. I’m betting if you pick that one (or write it in) you’ll get an A in the class.
Why you love Central volleyball
I’ve made friends that I know I will have for the rest of my life; it doesn’t hurt that we get to play our favorite sport at the same time.
I make it up as I go along so I can cross things off right after I write them down.
