Wrestling. I saw an opportunity to get experience early in my career and bought in to the vision Coach Van Kley had for the program and I knew I wanted to be part of that.
Your favorite professor and why?
They are all fabulous, I can’t pick just one.
What you like best about the wrestling team?
We are always having a good time. Whenever we are together there’s a lot of laughs.
I’d rather just be rich and not have to work.
Favorite Central memory?
Beating Simpson numerous times. You got to love getting the W against those guys.
Coolest thing you learned about gators in Florida?
I learned that the stars from Swamp People weren’t totally crazy when they said gator meat was good. Gator meat plus a little breading dipped in some sauce doesn’t taste too bad.
Person past or present you’d like to have lunch with?
Adam Sandler. That guy is the man.
The toughest part of practice?
It’s all tough. Practice is a grind every day and until you’ve experienced it most people will never understand the life of a wrestler.
The thing most people don’t know about Coach Van Kley?
He is a HUGE Shakira fan! And I mean huge!
Best place to eat in Pella?
I would say Mc Donald’s takes the title.
Teammate that could take anyone in a dance-off?
Reid “Swag-Step” Imerman. He has two great hips and he is incredibly mobile with them as well.
Favorite superhero and why?
Super Man. Who doesn’t like him?
Why you love wrestling?
It’s a love hate thing. Some days you love it some days you hate it but once you’ve committed to it you're hooked. It’s not about being famous because most wrestlers go unnoticed, it’s not about getting a 6 digit contract after your collegiate career because there is no REAL professional wrestling. It’s about doing everything you can to win. You always got to see yourself getting your hand raised at the end of your match and see yourself standing at the top of that podium at the end of the day. There’s no one to have your back, no one to correct your mistakes, it is just you against your opponent and he’s standing in your way to get where you are going. You just have to have the right mentality to be a wrestler and to love it.
Can’t live without..
Um.. Oxygen, food, and water?
Pre-match ritual or habit?
I don’t really have one. I just try to stay relaxed as possible. I’m not one to get all jacked up before the match, I’d rather stay calm and just think before I go out on the mat.
I’m a thrill seeker so basically anything that doesn’t involve jumping out of an airplane or someplace high and relying on a parachute or bungee to catch me. Oh and ride a bull.
