Hometown: Grundy Center, Iowa

High School: Grundy Center

Why Central?
I can’t exactly pinpoint why I chose Central because I really didn’t want to like it at first. But something just felt right here, like intuition. The Volleyball and Study Abroad programs were definitely part of the charm.

Best class you’ve taken and why
My favorite classes have been Spanish courses with Sam Mate-Kodjo because he is hilarious and I learned about not only Spanish, but also life in general.

You’re majoring in business management because…
I find business very interesting, specifically marketing. I don’t know what I want to do yet, but a business degree gives me a lot of options for the future.

Favorite Central memory
I can’t pick just one… some of the top contenders: Volleyball trips to NY, DC, and Oregon, studying abroad, beating Wartburg at home last year, swimming in the fountain, and any of the other crazy times with the besties.

Why you love volleyball
Volleyball is the most intense game I have ever played. One person can’t carry the team; you need everyone. Volleyball always provides a challenge because it is just as much of a mental game as physical.

What you like best about your team
The best thing about my team is that everyone is friends and we always have fun together.

The hardest part about being a middle hitter

Blocking is the worst part. We have to keep track of and block all three hitters. Middle hitters also have to be fast in order to get off the net and approach to hit a quick set. It is arguably one of the most important positions and the most fun.

Best advice ever received from a coach
My high school Basketball coach, Laurie Wallis, gave us this quote once:
I hope you win for your sake, not mine.
Because winning's nice.
It's a good feeling.
Like the whole world is yours.
But, it passes, this feeling.
And what lasts is what you've learned. - Author Unknown.

Coolest place you’ve ever been
I think it is a tie between Italy and Hawaii, but then again London was pretty cool too...

Person past or present you’d like to have lunch with
Oprah, because she is fascinating and has built an empire from nothing.

Your first CD
Backstreet Boys

Can’t live without…
My family and friends, laughter, dessert and probably my cell phone (lame, I know).

The best reason to visit Grundy Center
Well unless you’re into farming it doesn’t have a whole lot to offer. However, the people are pretty nice. Plus the best family in the world lives there and I am sure they wouldn’t mind if you dropped in!

Bucket list
It is never ending, but here are some of the ones that are hot on the list…
Hot air balloon ride
Find a job I love
Scuba dive
Hand out $100 dollar bills to strangers
Revisit Europe
Watch turtles hatch and run for the ocean
Be at Times Square on New Year’s Eve as ball drops
Run a marathon
Visit all 50 States
