Tammy Williamson Chase ’90, originally from Omaha, Neb., now lives in Chicago, Ill. Major: Political science After graduation in 1990, I was a reporter at the Newton Daily News covering criminal and civil trials, fires, car crashes and city council and school board meetings for a couple of years. In 1992, I took the law school entrance exam, but that would be the closest I ever got to law school — my son Tory Moore was born later that year, and the journalism thing was growing on me. I married another journalist, Brett Chase, with whom I now have a 14-month-old son, Mac Chase. In 2006 I was promoted to a features section editor at the Chicago Sun-Times and later was named director of investor relations for the parent company. I am currently director of corporate communications, handling internal, media and community relations matters. And, I still write features for the Sun-Times from time to time. The Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in June 2010. The trophy visited the Sun-Times newsroom, and I was photographed with it. It was the most exciting event in the newsroom since Barack Obama was running for president and years before that, Bono visited our editorial board (I got his autograph). Hobbies: Spending time with my kids and husband. Running, including marathon, half marathon and 10-mile races in 2010, and yoga. I volunteer as a half marathon pace group leader, helping new runners train and finish their first half marathons. Most memorable Central College moments: Ordering Happy Joe’s taco pizza with my Scholte Hall floor mates freshman year, pledging Sigma, the Berlin Wall being torn down, getting thrown in the pond after breakfast by one of the fraternities, watching Yo! MTV Raps after my afternoon classes, the 1987 stock market crash, working the Hardee’s drive-through during Tulip Time. Want to be featured in the alumni spotlight? Tell us your story.
Riley Taylor ’12 of Tama, Iowa Major: Psychology Activities: I am spending my summer as a camp counselor at the United Methodist Camp and retreat center in Okoboji. I’m looking forward to this coming fall when my younger sister will join me on campus. I also participate on the women’s tennis team. To the donors: I would like to say thank you. So many students couldn’t afford to come here without their generosity, myself included, and I can't thank them enough.
