2014 Schedule

Please stop by the Welcome Center when you arrive on campus to check in and pick up your registration packets, meal and event tickets, special Central gift and find out who’s coming back!

The Welcome Center is located in the Graham Annex. The Annex is located on University St – across the drive from the Graham Conference Center and Central Hall. Parking is available in the large lot on University St.

7 a.m. – 4 p.m. Café at Geisler Library open. Visit Central’s own coffee shop and enjoy a variety of beverages and pastries. The café is located on the ground floor of the Geisler Library.
8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Mills Gallery open.
8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Bookstore open. The Central Bookstore is located on the 1st floor of the Maytag Student Center.  Don’t forget your coupon!
10 a.m. Heritage Day Reception. Lower Chapel Courtyard.
11 a.m. Heritage Day Worship, Chapel.
12 p.m. Heritage Day Luncheon. Harry and Bernice Vermeer Banquet Hall, Graham Conference Center. This luncheon celebrates members of the Heritage Roll of Honor and Cornerstone Society and recognizes our special Homecoming guests – members of the class of 1964 celebrating their golden reunion. By invitation only. Suggested attire: professional
2 - 5:00 p.m. Maytag Student Center Open House – Significant renovations are planned for the Maytag Student Center during the summer of 2014 – courtesy of a $2.75 million gift from the Fred Maytag Family Foundation.  Stop by to tour the building and check out the updates.
6 p.m. Lemming Race, Peace Mall. A Central tradition since 1977. Come watch the fun (but stay back so you don’t take a swim!)
6 - 7:30 p.m. Street Festival: Alumni & Family Barbecue, Pep Rally, Coronation, street party – Graham Hall Lawn by Broadway Street. Enjoy casual family dining while meeting and greeting friends and classmates. AND  celebrate students, athletics, and homecoming. This event is designed to promote community and celebrate Central. Barbecue lines open at 5, party starts at 6, lines close at 7. Cost: $10 adults, $5 children 5-12, free children 0-4 and Central students with ID.
6:30 p.m. Athletics Hall of Honor banquet, Harry and Bernice Vermeer Banquet Hall, Graham Conference Center. Open to all alumni, friends and fans. Cost is $20. Reservations are required. Call 641-628-5226.
7:30 - 9 p.m. Alumni Social Time – Stop by the newly renovated Maytag Student Center after the street party to visit with classmates and friends.  Enjoy light snacks and a cash bar. 

Saturday, Oct. 4

8 - 10 a.m. Pancake Breakfast, Maytag Patio Enjoy pancakes and sausage cooked and served by members of Central’s Parents’ Council. Cost: $5 Adults; $3 Children 5-12; free Children 0-4 and Central students with ID.
8 a.m. - Noon Mills Gallery open.
9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Bookstore open.
9:30 – 10:20 a.m. Lifelong learning classes, various locations. Faculty and staff will lead classes on a variety of topics. These classes are designed for all ages and we invite everyone to participate.
9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Central College Abroad information session, Weller 101. Learn about Central’s study abroad program from program participants and administrative staff.
10 - noon

Carnival. Inflatable fun for everyone. Weller Center lawn by the tailgate.

10:00 a.m. Athletics Hall of Honor induction ceremony, Schipper Fitness Center lobby. Help celebrate the induction of the Central Athletics Hall of Honor’s newest members.
10:30 a.m.

Alumni Award Presentation & Lunch – Maytag Student Center Boat, Moore, Weller Rooms, Alumni and friends are invited to attend the 2014 Alumni Award presentation followed by special luncheon that will honor our 2014 Alumni Award recipients.  This luncheon is an alternative to the tailgate lunch. Cost: $12 adults; $6 for children 5 – 12.  Reservations are required. 

11 a.m. Tailgate Under the Big Tent Corner of Independence and W. 3rd. $
1 p.m. Football — Central vs. Wartburg Schipper Stadium.$
5:00 p.m.

Party on the Plaza. All are welcome to this festive party to renew friendships and celebrate Central. Enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres prepared by Central’s excellent catering staff including Chef Hang Lovan’s egg rolls, crab ragoons, potstickers, and other Asian specialties; comfort station; desserts including mini caramel and almond bars; and more while visiting with classmates and friends. The party will take place on Central's Bornt Entry Plaza off University Street, in Graham Conference Center and the conference center annex. Suggested attire: casual/business casual (you are free to wear what you’ve worn to the game!) Beer and wine (cash bar) will be available at this event. Cost: $15 adults; $5 children 5-12 and Central students with ID; free children 0-4.

7:30 p.m.

Class gatherings at various locations in Pella. Cash bar and light snacks available.

Sunday, Oct. 5

9 a.m. A Cappella Choir assisting in worship. A Cappella Choir alumni are invited to sing with the A Cappella Choir during 9:45 a.m. worship at Second Reformed Church, 612 Broadway. Rehearsal begins 9 a.m. at the church.
11 a.m. Sunday Brunch Central Market.
12 p.m. Eighth Annual Flying Pans Alumni Steel Band Concert. Douwstra Auditorium. All past Pan members are invited and encouraged to participate in our 8th annual Homecoming alumni concert.
