Alumni Awards - Mr. and Mrs. Alumni — Jim ’60 and Kathy Redeker Vande Berg ’60
Jim ’60 and Kathy Redeker Vande Berg ’60 of St. Augustine, Fla., are this year’s Mr. and Mrs. Alumni. This award is presented to a Central College alumni couple who have enthusiastically supported the mission of the college.
Jim graduated from Central in 1960 with a degree in economics. He obtained a bachelor’s degree from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia and a master’s degree from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., followed by a doctoral degree from McCormick Theological Seminary. He has served as minister at Virginia Tech University, in Oakland, N.J., and Atlanta, Ga. Since his 2003 retirement Jim has served as a consultant working with special Presbyteries at the Presbyterian Church USA General Assembly.
Kathy also graduated from Central in 1960 with a degree in music and an emphasis in organ performance. She went on to receive a master’s degree from Georgia State University. Before retiring in 2003 she served as a music educator, and she has been an organist and choir director in many churches. Kathy is a member of Central’s alumni advisory council.
Jim enjoyed his time at Central in marching band, A Cappella Choir and student government, while Kathy remembers playing the organ. Both have fond memories of meeting at Central and marrying a week after graduation. The couple has two daughters and now resides in St. Augustine, Fla.
