Elementary Education
Have you ever wanted to make a difference in the life of a child or teenager? Central’s superior Education Department offers a major in elementary education with courses designed to enable you to become an effective teacher in grades k-8. All education students participate in field experiences with area k-8 teachers and students in realistic settings. In addition, Central’s unique “Central Teacher Academy” provides a distinctive preparatory experience. Our in-demand graduates have gone on to become elementary and middle school teachers, special education teachers, and coaches.

Field experiences are very important at Central. Continuous contact with teachers and students in realistic settings enables prospective teachers to successfully transfer educational theory into effective practice. Facilities
The education department is housed within the second floor of the Geisler Library, which was first dedicated in 1974. Since then, the building has received numerous architectural prizes and awards. Today, the library holds over 220,000 books and journals plus access to a vast array of electronic information. In fall 2002, the Café@Geisler, a coffee shop and student hangout, opened on the ground level of the building.
