Central College Abroad's program at the University of Vienna is the oldest continually operating American program offering direct enrollment at the university in operation since 1966. Our program in Austria is a true immersion experience. Beyond just the language experience, you find yourself immersed linguistically, culturally and socially in classroom, residences, internships, service-learning experiences and even in your workout facilities!
Experience two countries – Germany and Austria – in one program! First an intensive German-language program at the Goethe Institute in the Kocher river valley to begin your immersion experience. You'll be surrounded by the castles and palaces of the Hohenlohe region while gaining the language preparation you'll need for the University of Vienna courses and continued language study. And when you move on to Vienna, choose the courses that fit your language level, and take advantage of the many excursions and activities that will give you a firsthand look at the Austrian culture.
Each of CCA 's international sites has an on-site program director, who is there to advise students during the academic experience, to orient them to the host city, to lead excursions, among many other things. All CCA directors also teach a hands-on seminar, where students learn about the host city and then experience it. Vienna's on-site director, Ruth Verweijen, has been the director in Vienna since 2000.
Live in Austrian residence halls and take advantage of the communal kitchen facilities to interact with other Austrian and international students while you prepare your daily meals. And CCA 's Vienna program excursions are a highlight for many students! Take in concerts, the opera, theatre, art exhibits and more.
The CCA center is a popular gathering spot for our students. When we say personalized attention, we mean it! CCA is the only study abroad program to have a director's office and the CCA student center located right on the University of Vienna campus, making it easily accessible to students. In addition to the director's office, the center includes computers with internet access, classroom space, a lounge, kitchen, reference library, a piano, a VCR and TV.
