My co-director and I are always available to our students and take great pride in helping make your experience abroad the experience of a lifetime.
Every Central College Abroad program boasts a resident director who plays a unique role in students' experience. Directors provide academic advising; teach a hands-on seminar, where students learn about the host city and then experience it first hand, and lead the cultural excursions connected to the seminar class. Central College Abroad takes pride in the personalized attention that it can provide students.
Ruth Verweijen, the on-site resident director in Vienna, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience about Vienna and all of Austria to the program. Ruth describes herself as 100% Viennese, but she’s really a citizen of the world. Her father is Dutch, and she has lived in the United States, Canada and Scotland. She grew up in Vienna, received most of her education there and has been resident director of the Central College Abroad program since 2000. Ruth loves traveling, hiking, sailing, attending theatre performances and spending time with her daughter.
As director, Ruth facilitates personal growth and learning by offering on-site support, academic advising and a complete on-site orientation to Vienna and Austria in general. She most enjoys sharing in students’ experiences in Vienna and helping them explore this exciting city.
You'll find Ruth...
In the Central College Abroad center on the University of Vienna campus, which includes classroom space, a lounge, kitchen, reference library and piano. Central College Abroad is the only study abroad program to have an office located right on campus.
