Spain: Intensive Language Program in Granada

Summer 2008 Dates and Fees
Dates: May 31- July 15
Credits: 8
Program Fee: $4175

The summer intensive language program in Granada is open to all levels, including beginners, who wish to concentrate on improving their reading, writing, listening and speaking abilities in Spanish. The method of instruction follows a communicative approach. The course is aimed at linguistic and social immersion using the student's own personal experiences. Students receive four hours of instruction daily. Tutoring services are available upon request.

Location
Classes are held at the University of Granada's Center for Modern Languages, a modern facility which is equipped with language laboratories, a library, video rooms, lounges, study areas, and a café. The center is housed in the restored Palacio de Santa Cruz in the heart of the old city of Granada. The Central College on-site director has her office in the same building.

Granada, a city of 300,000 residents, is home to more than 50,000 university students. Its many shops, tree-shade public squares, cobblestone pedestrian streets and busy highways are dominated by the magnificent medieval palace, the Alhambra, which overlooks the city. The mountains of the Sierra Nevada and the beaches of the Mediterranean are both less than an hour away by public transportation.

The majority of students on the program live with host families, one or two students per family. All host families provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. Most Spanish families take pride in their cooking and in their traditional Mediterranean cuisine.
