Discover a culture that is far different from your everyday life in America. Through Central College Abroad’s four-week program in China, you’ll have the opportunity to spend three weeks in an intensive internship program, teaching English to Chinese middle school students. And no Chinese language skills required for this program!
Location
Your internship is located in Hangzhou, long described by the Chinese proverb, “Heaven is above, and below are Suzhou and Hangzhou.” This perfectly portrays the natural beauty and rich history of Hangzhou. Known throughout China for its scenic West Lake, it is a place of history and legend. Hangzhou is an economically prosperous and vibrant city, with inexpensive public transportation, historical and cultural sites and bargain shopping, which you’ll definitely want to experience.
Internship
In your internship, you will have responsibility for a class of up to 25 students. You will teach two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon, five days a week, which will earn you six credits for teaching English as a second language. There are also some responsibilities for evening and weekend (language learning) activities.
Housing and Meals
Students will live in international student housing.
Excursions
Extensive travel around this fascinating country is planned both before your internship begins and after it ends. Your Chinese experience includes visits to Beijing and Shanghai, where you’ll see the Great Wall and the Forbidden City in the nation's capital and the bustling waterfront and shopping areas of its commercial powerhouse. And when you’re not working at your internship, you’ll have time to explore the many sites around Hangzhou and the West Lake district.
