I enjoyed the service-learning experience in the sense that I was immersed in the spanish culture and was forced to speak solely in spanish and with people from the Granada community. I believe that it has made me more confident in my speaking and translating skills.
Central College Abroad welcomes family and friends to visit the program during the course of the semester. There are, however, policies that Central College has instituted for reasons of liability, and also to ensure that the student’s experience abroad is not disrupted. Our experience with long-term visits (10 days or longer) is that they can prevent a student from becoming settled into the host culture, and can encourage extended homesickness.
For the reasons above, all Central College Abroad program day trips and excursions are only available to program participants currently enrolled in the program. Visitors may participate in program activities as deemed appropriate by the director. Also, during visits from family and friends, students are required to attend all classes and required program activities, as missing these necessary elements can compromise a student’s grades and the overall dynamics of the program.
Again, Central College Abroad does welcome visits from friends and family. These visits are encouraged to take place during semester breaks or at times when program excursions are not planned.
