My favorite academic experience was my internship that I completed in a small village outside of Merida. I met once a week with a woman who started a fair trade co-op. By the end of the experience, I had improved my knowledge of life in her small village, her co-op, improved my Spanish speaking abilities, and made a new friendship.

Recent excursions:Historical and cultural sites in Yucatan, including visits to Chichen Itza and surrounding colonial villages, and a five-day trip to the state of Chiapas.

Housing and meals: Live with other Central College Abroad students in Central’s house or choose a homestay option with a Mexican family. Most meals are provided.

Safety: Central College Abroad’s program in Merida is located far from the areas that the U.S. Department of State has pinpointed as cities and regions where unnecessary travel should be avoided.
