Internship or service learning opportunity

Learn more about the internships and service learning opportunities

London metropolitan universityThe Central College London program is intended to give you the opportunity to learn about London and Britain while experiencing British life and culture. Central College courses cover aspects of history, politics, business, and theatre and will help you develop the background you need to begin to understand Britain. Central courses are taught specifically for Central College Abroad participants by British faculty.

If you take a course at one of the universities with which Central works, you will experience the British educational system first hand and attend class with British and other international students. If you choose to participate in an internship, you will see how an organization in Britain works and have the chance to meet and work with a wide variety of people. Balancing your course load in this way allows you to see several facets of the British experience and make the most of your semester or year in London.

All students are required to take British Experience Seminar and Contemporary Britain for one semester. Full-year London students will take these courses during the fall semester. A student's schedule can be tailored to include a mix of the following:

  • Other Central College courses
  • Courses at British universities with which we are affiliated*:
  • Internship for four, six, or eight credits (more internship information)
  • Independent study

Note: Students can register for up to two courses per semester at an outside university without special permission from the program director.

Course Load
Students typically enroll in 12 to 17 semester hours. Most courses are three or four semester hours. Students wishing to take more than 17 semester hours per semester and/or an independent study may do so only with prior approval from the program director. Full-time student status is maintained by a minimum enrollment of 12 semester hours.

Course Structure
At the core of the London curriculum are Central College courses focusing on contemporary British society and theatre. These courses are open to program participants only. All students are required to take the British Experience Seminar and Contemporary Britain courses during their first semester in London. Students may also enroll in courses at the approved London institutions and in one internship.
