Instructions for configuring your computer to connect to Central College's Dial-Up PPP Server.

 

1.  First you need to find the Dial-Up Networking folder.  It can be found by either double clicking the My Computer icon, or by Start->Programs->Accessories and then either a Dial-Up Networking folder appears, or there may be one more level ->Communications, before the Dial-Up Networking folder appears.  Open up the folder, and you should see something similar to the following picture:

 

2.  Double click on the Make New Connection icon.  It should open up a dialog box like this:

   Type in a name that will be easy for you to remember, for instance, Central PPP.  Make sure that you modem is selected.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3.  Type in the telephone number 628-2002, you will only need the area code if you will be dialing long distance.

 

4.  After clicking next, you should be done entering in the information for the new connection.  Click Finish.

 

5.  You should now see an icon with the name of the new connection that you just created, in the Dial-Up Networking window.

 

6.  Right click on the new icon that you just created.  Select the properties.  A window similar to this one should open.

 

7.  Click on the tab across the top that reads "Server Types".  There are three check boxes that need to be unchecked. Uncheck the box under Advanced Options that reads "Log on to network".  Also uncheck the check boxes under Allowed network protocols that read "NetBEUI" and "IPX/SPX Compatible".  When you are finished the window should look similar to the following picture:

  After unchecking the boxes, click the OK button.  You should be returned to the Dial-Up Networking folder.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

8.  The configuration is now complete.  To connect, you can double click on the icon you just created.  In the "User name" box, type in your unique username, then enter you password in the "Password" box.  NOTE:  Passwords are CASE sensitive, for example "central" would not be the same as "Central".  You have the option of checking the box to save you password so that you do not have to type it in every time.  Click the "Connect" button to start the dial-up procedure.


9.  During dial-up you should see similar pictures as the following two:

Once your username and password are verified, the window will disappear.  Congratulations, you are now connected to Central College's PPP Server!!

Note:  Be sure to reconfigure your email program to use the new dial-up connection.  An alternative to reconfiguring the email program would be to delete the old dial-up connection to 628-5350.
