Accessing your data from off campus
 
There are two technologies you can use to connect to your data from off campus: WebDAV and FTP. Below you will find directions for both WebDAV and FTP. You can hover your mouse over a link to view an image related to that step. Clicking on a link will display the full size image in a new window.

WebDAV (Recommended)
WebDAV is recommended because it utilizes a secure connection to the server. You can also use WebDAV anywhere you have Internet access.
 
Windows XP / 2000 - Create a new network place
  1. Open My Network Places - My Network Places can be found in the following locations depending on your operating system
    • On the Start menu
    • On the Desktop
    • In My Computer on the "Other Places" menu on the left
  2. Click on Add a network place
  3. Select "choose another network location"
  4. For the network location enter the appropriate path below replacing username with your Central College username
  5. When prompted for a user name and password enter your Central College username and password
  6. Give your new network place a name
  7. Copy your network place to the desktop (optional)

Windows XP /  2000 - Open directly in Internet Explorer
  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Click on File | Open
  3. In the Open: box enter the appropriate path below replacing username with your Central College username
  4. Check the "Open as Web Folder" box and then click OK
  5. When prompted for a user name and password enter your Central College username and password
 
Mac OS X
  1. Select the Connect to Server command from the Finder or press Command K
  2. For the server address enter the appropriate path below replacing username with your Central College username
  3. If you are prompted to verify the certificate, click Continue
  4. When prompted for a user name and password enter your Central College username and password

    Note: If you are prompted for your username and password repetitively, usually when accessing DropFolders, please read this article.

  5. You should now have a new mount on your desktop

FTP
FTP can be used to access your data, but your username and password will not be sent securely. For this reason we encourage you to use WebDAV whenever possible.
 
Using a web browser like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari
  1. In the address bar enter the appropriate path below replacing username with your Central College username
    • Student H drive: ftp://acad3.central.edu/students/username
    • Faculty H drive: ftp://acad3.central.edu/faculty/username
    • Dropfolders: ftp://acad3.central.edu/dropfolders
  2. When prompted for a user name and password enter your Central College email address (username@central.edu) and password
 
Using an FTP program
  1. In the server name box enter the appropriate name below
    • Student H drive / Faculty H drive / Dropfolders: acad3.central.edu
  2. For the remote start folder enter the appropriate path below replacing username with your Central College username
    • Student H drive: /students/username
    • Faculty H drive: /faculty/username
    • Dropfolders: /dropfolders
  3. When prompted for a user name and password enter your Central College email address (username@central.edu) and password
