Situation Examples Notification Before Indication During Notification After If restart is required…
1.  installing OS security patches MS05-039 security bulletins from August 9, 2005 none none, other than possible disk chatter and slower computer performance mass e-mail reporting action(s) taken will ask users to restart their own computers
2.  installing OS service packs (major updates) upgrade Windows XP from SP1 to SP2 advance e-mail to specific user none, other than possible disk chatter and slower computer performance confirmation e-mail to specific user will ask user to restart their own computer
3.  installing OS upgrades upgrade from Windows 2000 to Windows XP (this function not currently performed with centralized management)
4.  installing or updating application software install a new version of Mathematica as a packaged kit; install an updated SPSS license key advance e-mail to specific user; arrange a mutually agreeable time none, other than possible disk chatter and slower computer performance none will perform upgrade at a mutually agreeable time; will restart computer as needed
5.  inventory reports obtain information from each PC concerning hardware configuration and software installed none none none not applicable
6.  remote configuration change computer name, change network address and settings none none none will restart computer as needed after closing applications
7.  remote start * remotely start a computer that is turned off so other functions can proceed none computer starts without user intervention none; computer may be left running or may be shut down again will restart computer as needed
8.  remote control * see user's screen and control mouse/keyboard for user support; see if it is safe to restart computer; install application software that requires responses during installation connection request will appear on screen prior to connection; if user does not decline within 1 minute, connection will proceed ** if user is logged in and phone contact is not underway, a chat window will be opened on the user screen to attempt to communicate before work proceeds none will restart computer as needed after closing applications

** - If your screen is locked (with Ctrl-Alt-Del | Lock Computer), we will not proceed with remote control.
     If no one is logged into the computer, we will proceed with remote control.
