McAfee VirusScan (for Windows) and Virex or VirusScan(for Mac) Instructions

McAfee anti-virus software is provided free of charge to Central faculty, staff and students.  Central College pays a site license fee to McAfee each year in order to provide this service.

Students are required to have up-to-date anti-virus software installed on the computer in their residence hall room.  You are perfectly welcome to use some other brand of anti-virus software such as Norton/Symantec.  However you are required to install virus definition updates on a regular basis, and accessing those updates usually requires paying a subscription fee to the software company.  The subscription cost for McAfee virus definition updates is included in our site license agreement.

If you are already using an anti-virus program (including an older version of McAfee) you will need to remove it before you install the latest version of McAfee.  You will need to complete each of the steps below that corresponds to your operating system.  In each case, choose to "Run [or Open] this file from its current location," then follow the screen prompts and accept the default choices.

Windows XP or Windows Vista

  2. Click here to download McAfee: (You may be required to enter your Central College username and password) McAfee VirusScan 8.5 - updated on 7/2/2008 Includes Patch 5
