What's New?
This page lists things that are new either on this web site, new to AbstractAlgebra or new to Exploring Abstract Algebra with Mathematica.
- Wolfram Research is in the midst of beta testing its next new version (6). We are making changes with our packages as well. A modified version is almost complete that allows it to function under the new version of Mathematica (which handles some things differently). We are currently planning ways to taking advantage of some of the new capabilites in version 6. There are some exciting possibilities about how we can leverage these changes into our package. Look for more news in the next few months as we work through some of the issues and as version 6 is released publicly.
- During the week of June 11, 2006, this web site received a major overhaul. There is a new menu system and a new look and feel. Also, many pages that had not been filled in with the last page are now partially or totally filled in. What do you think?
- One of the recent changes made to the web site involves changes in the Feedback section. Several folks were hawking their wares (or thought that they were) by filling out the web forms on a periodic basis. I have now added a feature that produces a random number that needs to be entered in before the form can be submitted. While it is a pain for you, legitimate users, it was a pain for Ken and I to receive junk emails every 50 minutes. This has stopped automated programs causing these submissions (thus far).
- Some minor modifications to the documentation (BrowserIndex, BrowserCategories, Guide3B, Guide2, Labs, and EAAMInfo) were made recently. These are refelected in the new version 5.x downlaod of the AbstractAlgebra package. Other changes include some modifications to some of the palettes, Lab0, an addition of a "What'sNew" file and a merging of the package collection into one. This last change reflects the change of times. When we first started the AbstractAlgebra project, computers had so little memory that they could not read in all the code that we need at once. Thus, we created a suite of packages to handle things, only calling the packages as they were needed. We have now combined them all into one package. This simplifies things but there may be some subtle bugs that we have not yet uncovered. (Please let us know if you find any bugs.) All former references to "packages" have hopefully been corrected to "package". Note that one still needs to use SwitchStructureToGroup or SwitchStructureToRing, as needed. We encourage version 5 users to download this new version.
