Health Fair April 3
The campus-wide health fair Springfest 2008 will be Thursday, April 3, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in Maytag Student Center. Top door prizes are two iPod Nanos. Blood screening with a diagnostic profile with complete blood count is $30 from 9 a.m.-noon, and Prostate Specific Antigen is $23 from 9 a.m.-noon; all other stations are free. The health fair features include: Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic of Iowa, Iowa Dermatology Dermascan, Central counseling, nutrition, dining services, physical fitness profiles, body composition testing, dental hygiene and more. Hourly staff receives a one-hour release during working hours in order to attend. Call health services at ext. 5227 with questions.
GOLD at Iowa Stars game April 4
Join Central College GOLD (Graduates of the Last Decade) for an evening of Iowa Stars hockey at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines Friday, April 4. Cost is $10 per person and includes ticket, hot dog, chips and pop before the game. Payment in advance is required. Parents’ council April 5
Parents’ council will meet Saturday, April 5. Mike Lubberden (facilities planning and management) will present the campus master plan and discuss current renovations taking place on campus. Phil George (education) will hold a question/answer session on academic advising. Susan Canfield (advancement) will review graduation and Homecoming/Family Weekend information. Student panel members are Trenton Blythe ’08 of Williamsburg and Peter Fegley ’11 of Cedar Falls.
Central College choir tour April 9-13, post-tour concert April 20
Central College A Cappella Choir, Chamber Singers and vocal jazz singers will tour Iowa, Illinois and Michigan Wednesday-Sunday, April 9-13, stopping at select schools and churches along the way, including a performance at Queen of Angels Parish in Chicago, Ill. A post-tour concert will be Sunday, April 20, at 4 p.m. at Second Reformed Church in Pella.

Softball picnic April 19
The Central College alumni softball picnic will be Saturday, April 19, following the doubleheader vs. Dubuque, which begins at 2 p.m. The 1988, 1993 and 2003 national championship teams will be honored and a celebration to honor coach George Wares (athletics) for his induction into the NFCA Hall of Honor will follow the games. About me: Received a doctorate from the University of California, San Diego; lived in Argentina, Costa Rica and Mexico for several years; married to Lisa, whom I met in the Sierra Club, and we enjoy hiking, and soon camping, with our 20 month old daughter Sylvianne. Other hobbies include playing the guitar, poker and watching Comedy Central.
Reimer at theatre conference and stage expo
Treva Reimer (cultural affairs) attended the United States Institute of Theatre Technology Conference and Stage Expo March 19-22 in Houston, Texas. She chaired two sessions: “Costume Design Training in Odessa, Ukraine,” and “PQ: Golden Triga and Russian Design.” Treva is chair of programming for the International Committee and vice-commissioner for International Issues for the Scene Design Commission.
Prothero chair of AEA board of directors
Joy Prothero (education) was re-elected chair of the Area Education Agencies’ board of directors for the State of Iowa. She will attend chief administrators’ meetings each month during the 2008-09 academic year. The AEA board of directors’ conference will meet in Des Moines Thursday-Friday, April 3-4.
Wilkinson Iowa casting director
Ann Wilkinson (theatre) is the Iowa casting director for a new feature film starring Academy Award nominee Ellen Page and Cillian Murphey. The film will be shot in the Des Moines area this summer.
Dining services at conference
Lynne Steenhoek, Hang Lovan, Steven Roselli and Kayleen Vander Veen (all dining services) presented an interest session at the Midwest NACUFS Conference. They presented a program titled “A Taste of Asia.” This session showcased Central’s Mongolian BBQ station and demonstrations of crab rangoon and spring rolls.

Campus ministries hosts middle school students
Campus ministries hosted 15 middle school Angel Tree girls on campus for a retreat this past weekend. Loads of fun and sponsored by campus ministries’ action team. About 15 college students helped during the weekend.
