Central hosts General Synod
The 201st session of the Reformed Church in America General Synod will be on campus Thursday-Tuesday, June 7-12. Central will welcome nearly 600 delegates, official guests, chaplains and denominational executives to this event. Sessions and daily worship service will be held in the Kuyper Fieldhouse. A 24/7 prayer vigil beginning at noon Thursday, June 7, and ending at noon Tuesday, June 12, for Synod will be held at Peace Lutheran Church. Prayer is open to all people. You may enter at anytime or you may sign up to cover an hour of prayer by visiting www.trcpella.com. Central will serve as co-hosts for the RCA college reception for the delegates on the evening of Saturday, June 9. Central will host an all RCA college rootbeer float event Saturday, June 9, at 9 p.m. All Central people are welcome and remember to wear red. We also will host a morning coffee time in front of Central Market from 6:30 a.m. until the market opens for breakfast.
This year, as Synod strives for improvement, they have changed the process for discussing issues. The General Synod offices have identified three major issues that the entire synod will break into groups to discuss. Rather than sending these topics to specific advisory committee’s the moderator of the discussion groups will create a summary report to the plenary, which will then be placed before all Synod for further discussion and action. One of the topics is the possible inclusion of the Belhar Confession. To see an overview of synod activities, visit www.rca.org/synod.
For additional information about all events or to volunteer, please contact Kristin Sullivan (RCA relations) at ext. 7600.

Summer hours and summer attire
The summer office hours are in effect Monday, May 14, through Friday, Aug. 10. All offices, with a few exceptions, will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In the judgment of the supervisor, hourly personnel may elect either a one-half or one-hour lunch period. Those individual offices advised to be open over the lunch hour will need to make the necessary adjustments.
Office casual attire presenting a favorable and professional image will be permitted Monday, May 14, through Friday, Aug. 10, for all administrative, support and student staff. Unacceptable summer attire includes T-shirts, halter tops, jeans, skorts (skirts/shorts combo) or shorts of any kind (no athletic, denim or walking shorts) athletic shoes or beach sandals. Acceptable clothing includes Central logo shirts with collars, Capri pants and dress sandals.
Applicant tracking system
The human resource office soon will be launching a new electronic applicant tracking system. The provider of this software program is Interview Exchange. The program will allow all applicants to apply electronically to a specific open position, by submitting an application, a resume, cover letter and any other relevant attachments, through the college Web site. All application materials, for the specific open position, will be stored in an electronic file. The human resource office will be able to give the appropriate hiring supervisor or search committee access to the open position, thus eliminating the need to manually process, copy, and distribute applicant material. This also will provide a more secure and efficient system for applicants to submit their information and for the human resource office to store all information electronically. Further updates on our progress and training for non-HR staff will be forthcoming.
Open Positions
To review open positions and download an application click here or visit the college Web site at www.central.edu and select job seekers on the home page drop-down menu for more information.
