Words cannot describe how much I have grown from my internship here in London. First, the sheer amount of articles I've written has greatly improved my writing skills. Second, the contacts I've made thought the product launches, London fashion week, my office... will be so beneficial to put on a resume. Third, I am much more confident now. I know my internship will look impressive on a resume and my portfolio of work from here will speak volumes to future employers.

orientation/excursions

Each Central program offers an in-depth orientation that will acclimate students to the country's culture as they get a feel for their new environment.

London orientation
Get to know your surroundings by beginning your semester abroad with a full orientation led by your resident director. The orientation program includes discussions, speakers, a travel seminar, tours of London, a theatre trip (in recent semesters students have taken in Wicked and Mama Mia), a visit to London Metropolitan University, academic advising and course registration. Orientation culminates at the end of the second week with a weekend trip out of London.

Cultural excursions
One of the highlights of studying through Central College Abroad London is the number of cultural activities and excursions offered to students. Most tickets and entrance fees for London activities are covered by your program fee. Many of these excursions, facilitated by the resident director, link directly with your course work in London and continue throughout the semester. Recent excursions that have connected students to British culture included:

  • Boat trip to Greenwich
  • Globe Theatre
  • Soccer match
  • Parliament tour
  • Classical music concert
  • Major theatre productions such as Wicked, Mama Mia, Chicago and more
  • Walking tours of London

Some day and weekend trips are also included in the program fee. Past years have included:

  • Weekend trip to Stratford-upon-Avon (including performance by the Royal Shakespeare Company); Warwick Castle; The Cotswolds; Oxford
  • Day trips to Stonehenge and the cities of Bath and Winchester

Outside of regular program excursions, many students choose to explore on their own, either over the weekend or during a semester break. Students often visit other parts of England and the UK, with trips to Wales and Scotland being popular weekend options. In the past, students have taken advantage of London as a European travel hub, visiting Ireland, France, Spain, Greece, as well as many other countries!
